Dear Members,

CWA is aware of the announcement of a bill backed by certain NJ legislators to ban telework for state employees. We will oppose that bill as it is wrong for state business operations and would hurt recruitment and retention. Additionally, such a bill would ignore the positive results of telework in state government for the past four years, maintaining operations during a pandemic, inclement weather, and other events. Like other work rules, telework is negotiable, and we will enforce our right to negotiate collectively. We will monitor the proposed legislation closely.

This also does not diminish our continued negotiations with the State to implement a permanent telework rule. We are working on finalizing that draft rule and should have more to report in the coming weeks.
